Butterflies

We have been learning all about butterflies this month. Our butterfly eggs have just arrived, and we have been observing them everyday and writing about them.

One of our projects for this month is to write an All About book on butterflies. You are going to write about what they look like, what they eat, where they live, and about their life cycles. Now a lot of you think that butterflies only come in two colors, orange and brown. Let's explore to see if this idea is right.

Please visit the following link and look at the different photographs of butterflies that exist :

Under each photograph, you will find the species name of the butterfly that you are looking at in italics and the common name in bold. After looking through this butterfly photo gallery, I want you to pick and draw three of your favorite butterflies. For each drawing, you must write three sentences describing how this butterfly looks like. You will present your drawings to the class, and read the descriptions that you wrote for each butterfly. The class will then discuss if whether or not we were right when we said that butterflies only come in two colors.
